I am not a fan of luxury cell phones. Watchmakers seem to think that there is money to be made by combining watch technology and appeal with cell phones. Tag Heuer did it and now Ulysse Nardin will unveil the Chairman Phone at the BaselWorld 2009.The problem with luxury wrapped electronics is that it ages very quickly. A mechanical watch is never getting outdated. A mobile phone is obsolete latest in 18 months.In any case the Ulysse Nardin Chairman looks dramatic and it features kinetic power along other elements of luxury watches. The watch show will spawn over six exhibition halls with a total surface area of 160,000m2.

Watchmaker Ulysse Nardin has launched new limited-edition fashion watches to celebrate the 75th birthday of owner and president Rolf Schnyder, who has been involved in the industry for more than five decades.Just 75 of the latest model of Freak Diavolo fashion watches will be made available and its manufacturer claims the limited-edition timepiece features cutting-edge design as well as user-friendly features."Almost 30 years ago, I bought Ulysse Nardin, a calculated risk as I believed there was a strong chance that unique, innovative mechanical watches could thrive," Mr Schnyder explained. "I fell in love with this grand old brand."The veteran businessman added that he had chosen to update the Freak Diavolo range because it had been an "historic breakthrough" for the company and one of its most distinctive offerings.Another well-known fashion watches brand to recently release a retro-influenced model is Adidas, which launched a new 80s-style Adidas Originals timepiece – complete with calculator - earlier this month.
