Celebrating its 220th anniversary, the Girard-Perregaux Manufacture reveals its new sophisticated timepiece - the Girard-Perregaux 1966 Tourbillon with gold Bridge. The watch will join the Haute Horlogerie collection. Reflecting the essence of watchmaking tradition, the timepiece will be limited to just 50 pieces. The new Girard-Perregaux watch demonstrates a sober and elegant design. The silvered dial is completed with �Breguet?Arabic numerals. The time is indicated by blued steel leaf-shaped hands. The 40mm case, crafted from pink gold, demonstrates clean lines. The curvature and lugs of the case have been meticulously fashioned to provide supreme comfort on the wrist. The case was subjected to careful finishing operations to enhance the brilliance of its pink gold surface. The case-back is fitted by 6 screws. It has been manually engraved paying tribute to the domes of Girard-Perregaux's tourbillons relevant to the 19th century. The case-back also features a hand-engraved individual number.The heart of the 1966 Tourbillon with gold Bridge is a mechanical self-winding movement - Girard-Perregaux 9610 caliber. The mechanism has been constructed from 224 parts. The elegant decorative details and architecture of the movement have also been inspired by 19th century pocket tourbillons. Operating at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, the 31-jewel movement provides a 48-hour power reserve. The tourbillon bridge of the new Girard-Perregaux watch is worth special attention. It demonstrates an unusual shape - called �bassiné? the two arms of the bridge are rounded off. While rounding off the arms, the brand�s craftsmen have to file the ends of the arms to make them perfectly uniform. The arms acquire a semi-cylindrical shape while maintaining the demarcation of the centre and the heels. Then, the craftsmen use stones, buffs, boxwood and diamond pastes for smoothing the arms to a supremely rounded finish. This top-level craftsmanship reflects the heritage of the pocket Tourbillons created by Constant Girard-Perregaux in the 19th century. The sophisticated Tourbillon is assembled from 72 parts with amazing dexterity, as all the parts fit into a diameter of just one centimeter. Its weight is just 0.3 gram. The self-winding system of the movement has been patented by the Girard-Perregaux Manufacture. The small-diameter platinum oscillating weight is positioned in the space below and around the barrel.
