Chronoswiss donated proceeds from the sale of the "Kairos" timepiece worn by celebrated comedian Steve Carell at the 2010 Golden Globes. The silent auction was held at the Chronoswiss boutique in New York over the Valentine's Day weekend (from Thursday February 11 �C Saturday February 13th. All proceeds from the sale of the Kairos will be donated to the Red Ribbon Foundation to help in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Valued at $3,800, the Kairos is one of the most successful models in the Chronoswiss collection. The pane of sapphire crystal in the back of the consummately shaped case offers an unobstructed view of the self-winding movement. Love for details is evident in the finely guilloche dial and meticulously polished, blued steel hands. Chronoswiss is a German watch manufacturer based in Munich. The company was founded by watch making legend Gerd R. Lang in 1983 with the mission to bring about the renaissance of the mechanical watch and manufacture timepieces with uncompromising technical and aesthetic value. Chronoswiss prides itself in exclusivity by producing less than 6,000 watches per year. Though a German company, every component of the timepieces is manufactured in Switzerland and then hand-finished and assembled in Germany. RED RIBBON FOUNDATION raises money to fight AIDS. They award grants to organizations that demonstrate results as well as promising ideas for preventing the spread of AIDS and caring for those with the disease. RRF grants support prevention education programs for high-risk individuals, cutting-edge research to eradicate the disease, and assistance programs for those living with HIV/AIDS.

The new A. Lange & Sohne Zeitwerk Striking Time adds a chiming mechanism to the jumping hours and minutes complication.To make enough space for the new complication, the German engineers have increased its diameter by roughly 1/10th of an inch to 36.00 millimeters. The movement has also become a trifle thicker, now measuring exactly 10.00 mm.To make sure that everyone will notice the new function, Lange did two things.Firstly, the two gongs are placed right on the dial just below the signature Time Bridge component, which is made of rhodiumed German silver.Secondly, the striking mechanism chimes every fifteen minutes with quarter-hour signals sounding in high-pitched tone and the top of the hour chiming in lower-pitched sound.The second function must be pretty annoying after the initial wow-impression wears out in an hour or so, but thankfully there is a special pusher at 4 o’clock that shuts the chimer off.Due to a larger movement, the new version of the watch is also a bit larger than the original.According to the official specs, the elegant case (which is available both in white gold or limited edition platinum) is now 44.20 millimeters in diameter and 13.80 millimeters thick.Of course, the watch looks bulkier than its predecessor, but it is the price you pay for converting an understated masterpiece into a particularly expensive Swiss army knife.
