TweetEmailAt BaselWorld 2008 this year, Rolex announced an update to their already amazing, top-of-the-line diver: The Rolex Sea-Dweller. They're calling the new model the Rolex Sea-Dweller DEEPSEA. The DEEPSEA has several changes from the original Sea-Dweller:As with the new Yacht-Master 2, it's more heavily branded. The previous Sea-Dweller was notable for its restraint; this one adds the "ROLEX" repeated around the chapter ring, additional blurbs on top of the "ringlock", and "DEEPSEA" above the center. At least there's still no cyclops (date magnifier), and thankfully, they did not add polished center links like the new GMT Master 2.As with the Anniversary Submariner and new GMT Master 2, the Sea-Dweller DEEPSEA gets the new "maxi-dial" which means that the hour markers are larger, and both the the minute hand and the hour hands are slightly wider.The depth rating increases from silly to ludicrous: 1,220m (4,000ft) on the original to 3,900m (12,800ft) on the DEEPSEA.The crystal goes from flat thick sapphire to domed thick sapphire.New super-hard ceramic bezel with platinum-filled numbers. We first saw this design on the new GMT Master 2.Much-improved ratcheting clasp that increases in 1.8mm increments.The caseback goes from flat stainless steel to a titanium/steel alloy.The new "Ringlock System", which is a stainless steel ring under the crystal that absorbs some of the pressure.New blue-colored lume on the dial and bezel dot �� very cool!.Larger case with slightly updating styling.As before, it has a helium escape valve, which only matters if you do saturation diving. The movement is the same 3135, but with the addition of the new antimagnetic Parachrom Blue hairspring which we've discussed before on the Rolex Milgauss.Price was not announced, but expect it to be steep. The Sea-Dweller has always been one of their more expensive models, and these updates certainly won't make it any cheaper. Rolex is usually slow to revise or introduce new models, and they've done several in the past year or two: The Anniversary Submariner, The Rolex Milgauss, The new Yacht-Master 2, the new GMT Master 2, the Cellini, and now the Sea-Dweller DEEPSEA. Radical watch fans drooling over Rolex and Omega have long held a heated debate over which company is a better movement maker. It would be too arrogant for anyone to settle this debate to an end, so now let me just share my personal opinion on this topic.To the best of my knowledge, taking a look at Rolex Caliber 3135 and Omega Caliber 1120 would be the best way to make a comparison of their movements. I am really fantasized over these two calibers. The two share a lot of common in measurements of performance, with a few minor differences that set them apart. Microstella system is adopted in the glucydur balance wheel of the 3135 to allow for adjustments in timing. The 4 screws equipped at equilateral distance points along the balance wheel can slow down the rate when they are moved away from the center, likewise, the rate will be speeded up once they are moving towards the center of the balance wheel. Compared with 3135, Omega Caliber 1120 was cast into the shade from technical aspect. The 1120, using a modified ETA and the Etachron adjustment screw, would be less accurate without any accuracy adjustment than a conservative design of adjustment screws on the balance wheel. Rolex also has smartly incorporated a freely sprung balance into the caliber 3135, while 1120 adopts the regulated balance. Freely sprung balance is applied by most high end watch makers, and Omega is not exclusive with Caliber 2500, which is the next generation of the Caliber 1120. KIF shock protection system which shares a lot of similarities to the ETA Incabloc shock protection system inbuilt in the 1120 is adopted by Rolex to give better protection against timing mistakes from sudden movement. The two systems are almost identical, with a bit difference in design.From all what I have said above, I believe that the Omega 1120 does lose out to the Rolex 3135 from a theoretical design point of view.I’ve told people not to worry when God closes a door, since there is a window you can find, like these cheap brand watches of superb quality, for most people are focus on rolex datejust ii replica watches.
