TAG Heuer introduced the Grand Carrera series. The Grand Carrera collection includes several new models that pay homage to the original 1964 Carrera design and features the TAG Heuer Calibre RS movement. The indicators of this exclusive, GT engine-inspired rotating system enable wearers to read small seconds, a second time zone or chronograph time effortlessly, providing them with at-a-glance access to precision timing.All models host a "Cotes de Geneve" screw and polished beveled edges complimented by curved, faceted horns on both case sides, a curved, sapphire crystal with double antireflective treatment and a double sapphire crystal caseback. The dials feature a hand-applied TAG Heuer logo and curved faceted markers. Oversized screw-in crowns and push-button clasps complete the sophisticated look of the pieces which are also water resistant to 100 meters.The series is certified with the Controle Officiel Suisse des Chronometres (COSC) Automatic Movement and will be available in late 2007.Grand Carrera Calibre 6 RSClassically chic with a silver, brown or black dial, this 40.2 mm timepiece is equipped with a TAG Heuer Calibre 6 RS movement. It is available on a stainless steel bracelet or alligator strap for $2,995 or with a steel and gold bracelet for $4,295.Grand Carrera Calibre 8 RS Grand Date GMTCreated with the world traveler in mind, this dual-time watch features a second GMT time zone visible through an aperture at 6 o'clock. It also offers the first-ever TAG Heuer automatic movement with an oversized date window at 12 o'clock. It is offered with black, silver or brown dial, steel bracelet or alligator strap for $3,495.Grand Carrera Chronograph Calibre 17 RSThis COSC-certified chronograph features a 43 mm dial, screw-in crown, screw-in chronograph pushbuttons and hand-applied date window at 6 o'clock. The dial is equipped with two rotating systems with Cotes de Geneve treatments and diamond polished facets: seconds at 3 o'clock; chronograph minute at 9 o'clock. The Red Dot Award is of the more desirable "good design" awards out there. Emphasis is always on form and function. You'll find that most award recipients are often excellent selling products. The award is given by the Design Zentrum Nordheim Westfalen in Germany. This year two Tag Heuer watches received Red Dot Awards, and this is the fifth time in seven years that Tag Heuer watches received such Red Dot Awards for good product designs. The two watches that received the award are the new Tag Heuer Grand Carrera Calibre 36 and the new Tag Heuer Aquaracer 500M with the Calibre 5 movement. The Grand Carrera Calibre 36 is an odd watch with a sound design concept for measuring 1/10 of a second accuracy in its chronograph complication - in a unique manner. The best way to appreciate it is to view the video here. It is a cool concept, but isn't going to be a high volume seller like the Aquaracer 500M. The new Aquaracer model is very well done - really advancing the concept of a "professional diver watch" for Tag Heuer. You can read more on what I think about the Tag Heuer Aquaracer 500M here. It has an automatic movement, 500 meters of water resistance, and comes in various colors and materials that each have an strong industrial feel to them that is still inline with being a tasteful timepiece.
