TweetEmailAt BaselWorld 2008 this year, Rolex announced an update to their already amazing, top-of-the-line diver: The Rolex Sea-Dweller. They're calling the new model the Rolex Sea-Dweller DEEPSEA. The DEEPSEA has several changes from the original Sea-Dweller:As with the new Yacht-Master 2, it's more heavily branded. The previous Sea-Dweller was notable for its restraint; this one adds the "ROLEX" repeated around the chapter ring, additional blurbs on top of the "ringlock", and "DEEPSEA" above the center. At least there's still no cyclops (date magnifier), and thankfully, they did not add polished center links like the new GMT Master 2.As with the Anniversary Submariner and new GMT Master 2, the Sea-Dweller DEEPSEA gets the new "maxi-dial" which means that the hour markers are larger, and both the the minute hand and the hour hands are slightly wider.The depth rating increases from silly to ludicrous: 1,220m (4,000ft) on the original to 3,900m (12,800ft) on the DEEPSEA.The crystal goes from flat thick sapphire to domed thick sapphire.New super-hard ceramic bezel with platinum-filled numbers. We first saw this design on the new GMT Master 2.Much-improved ratcheting clasp that increases in 1.8mm increments.The caseback goes from flat stainless steel to a titanium/steel alloy.The new "Ringlock System", which is a stainless steel ring under the crystal that absorbs some of the pressure.New blue-colored lume on the dial and bezel dot �� very cool!.Larger case with slightly updating styling.As before, it has a helium escape valve, which only matters if you do saturation diving. The movement is the same 3135, but with the addition of the new antimagnetic Parachrom Blue hairspring which we've discussed before on the Rolex Milgauss.Price was not announced, but expect it to be steep. The Sea-Dweller has always been one of their more expensive models, and these updates certainly won't make it any cheaper. (We'll update this article when pricing is available.)I was honestly a bit surprised to see this update. Rolex is usually slow to revise or introduce new models, and they've done several in the past year or two: The Anniversary Submariner, The Rolex Milgauss, The new Yacht-Master 2, the new GMT Master 2, the Cellini, and now the Sea-Dweller DEEPSEA. ICAP Leopard finished third at the 2009 Rolex Hobart Sydney Race and the winner of the regatta was Alfa Romeo and the second in position was Wild Oats XI. ICAP Leopard is the 100 feet British super-maxi racing yacht which is owned by Helical Bar PLC chief executive Mike Slade. ICAP Leopard achieved the third position after a long and hard-fought battle with the last year's winner Wild Oats XI and this time winner Alfa Romeo. Crawling up the Derwent River with the 100 feet British super-maxing was tough for the crew as weather was changing each hour. The crew really tried hard but missed the second position also. The Rolex Hobart Sydney Race is all about testing the calibre to withstand the torturous weather conditions and emerging as a leader irrespective of what the conditions are. Rolex has always believed in bringing the best to the market via its watches and is associated with this sport because it also brings out the best in the worst conditions. Rolex has always sponsored the best sports and the Rolex Hobart Sydney Race also brings out the best of the entire crew of sailors.This season the Rolex Hobart Sydney Race was filled with surprises as Alfa Romeo won the winning position and defeating the all time favourite Wild Oats XI, which has been a four time winner. Still till now no team could break the record created by Wild Oats XI, though Alfa Romeo won but they did not defeat the old record set by Wild Oats XI. ICAP Leopard crossed the Tasmanian finish line after two day, sixteen hours and forty-fives minutes at sea. The windy weather was a little help to the sailors but the desire of winning was higher which made the crew stand against the worse weather conditions also. The Rolex Hobart Sydney Race is known for its fearsome weather conditions which makes this competition a very interesting competition to view. But this year the weather conditions were very hard-pressed which did not give tacticians and navigators any advantage to puff of the breeze and make this competition a neck-to-neck fight. The winds were cold and blustery for the race which made the race even harder to win. With such torturous weather conditions ICAP Leopard gave a hard-fight to Alfa Romeo. The forecasts changed hourly since the very start and no one could predict the weather till the very finish of the race. This race brought an immense tactical battle between all the super-maxi yachts. It is disappointing to know that ICAP Leopard could not take the line honour title also but Alfa Romeo should be credited for taking a lead in the impeccable race.ICAP Leopard has missed the historic treble as it has already won the Rolex Fastnet and Middle-Sea races earlier in the season. If ICAP Leopard had won this race then the team would have all three "offshore classic" in the season. The effort put by the team was tremendous which gave then the third position. The Rolex Hobart Sydney Race is about fight the odd and becoming a winner. Rolex is associated with this race as that it can bring the best sports team in front of the world. This time the best sports team was Alfa Romeo but ICAP Leopard gave a good fight to this team also.
