Not too long ago on this blog I put forth a healthy dose of skepticism () as to the potential of the unconventional and nonconforming Concord C1 QuantumGravity watch.?Ǭ?I further questioned the QuantumGravity’s ability to live up to expectations that were being set by an effusive and over-the-top marketing campaign in the lead up to Baselworld 2009.Now after seeing some live photos and now live video of this watch, I confess that I am even more intrigued by it, but in a good way.?Ǭ?The Concord C1 QuantumGravity is growing on me!?Ǭ?What can I say – it seems that my dismay was not with the watch itself but its verbose and uneccesarily elaborate “pre-Basel” marketing campaign!On closer study and reflection, helped by and – I am of the opinion that the C1 QuantumGravity – and all its craftsmanship, creativity and sheer ingenuity – is worthy of praise.?Ǭ?As is the construction of?Ǭ?not 1 but 10 of these watches – I’m sure that stringing those cable-stayed bridges is no small feat!?Ǭ?On a technical level, the C1 QuantumGravity’s credentials speak for themself – the bi-axial tourbillon, the brilliant (day or night) vertical power reserve, and the cleverly constructed winding crown are just a few noteworthy features of this cutting-edge watch.I dare say this watch has lived up to its mysterious and unconventional ways, and I hope to one day see it in person whereupon I can render final judgement!Picture by Bernard Werk @ Kyle Stults is Founder & President of , a new online community for watch owners, collectors & enthusiasts.

An uncompromising construction teamed with a meticulously conceived design. With the C1 MecaTech chronograph, Concord showcases new structures, offers a shift of perspective and confirms its determination to express a powerful, sophisticated vision of time. This two-tone timepiece immediately catches and holds the gaze with its gridwork pattern overlapping the chronograph counters at 12 and 6 o'clock and forming an additional protective rampart for its mechanical heart. While accentuating the sense of visual depth, the openworked lattice-work motif echoes the graphic design of the honeycombed dial.The design organizes the wheels of time into a rigorously balanced geometrical order. The implacable formal logic of this construction features indications appearing in face-to-face pairs: 30-minute and 12-hour counters, date and small seconds disks. Like glowing rays of light, the applied hour-markers enhanced with Superluminova punctuate the dial swept over by the taut, vigorous lines of the Concord hands, while subtle blue accents further enhance the legibility of the information provided.Surrounding these displays sheltered beneath a thick glareproofed sapphire crystal, the PVD-treated stainless steel and 18-carat rose gold case forms a high-security framework. The rugged sturdiness of this watch is entirely in tune with Concord's stringent demands. Gold subtly softens its appearance and highlights some of the signature construction features, such as the protective elements on the glass, chronograph pushers and crown.The COSC-certified chronograph movement is visible through the sapphire crystal caseback. Its pure design is enhanced by the shadowy form of the black rotor, while a C?tes de Gen��ve decorative motif sets the finishing touch to the contemporary armature of this short-time measuring machine.
