Breitling Navitimer Caliber 01 Limited EditionThe new Breitling Navitimer Caliber 01 Limited Edition automatic watch has its ETA-based B26 movement changed in favor of their latest B01 totally in-house job.It looks like Breitling has taken the path paved by Panerai.The Swiss watch maker still sticks to base calibers from ETA, but slowly reintroduces well-established models equipped with its own 100 percent in-house B01 movement originally introduced together with the Chronomat model.The main advantage of this strategy is that you do not need to poor massive money in re-tooling manufacturing facilities and hiring and training dozens (or even hundreds) of workers. Also, you can always sell an existing model with a manufacture-made movement at a premium price!Enter the Breitling Navitimer Caliber 01 Limited Edition.Previously available with the B26 caliber that was based on a mass-produced COSC-certified chronometer-grade ETA 2892-A2 movement, the new limited edition watch now sports a much more interesting from enthusiast’s point of view B01 mechanism.Since the B01 is slightly larger than the B26, the limited edition watch is also offered in a slightly broader case, but the overall dimensions are identical to those of the last year’s Breitling Navitimer 125th Anniversary chronograph.The rest is pretty much the same. The watch features a standard tri-compass dial layout and a signature fluted rotating bezel with their signature circular slide ruler.Oh, and there is finally a transparent case back with sapphire crystal that lets you admire the gorgeous COSC-certified chronometer movement.Breitling offers the Navitimer Caliber 01 Limited Edition in two versions. The Navitimer in stainless steel will be limited to only 2000 units and priced at €7420, which is whole 600 Euros more expensive than the base model. The version in rose gold will be limited to 200 units and offered at a recommended retail price of €19,950.

Breitling Chronospace Jet Team limited edition chronographCelebrating seven years of partnership between the most famous French aerobatics team and Breitling, the Swiss watch maker has issued the new Breitling Chronospace Jet Team limited edition SuperQuartz COSC-certified chronograph watch.During its first 20 years of history the French civilian aerobatic display team changed four sponsors (those including the Martini brand,) three types of planes (the Italian piston-powered Aermacchi SF.260, the Swiss turboprop Pilatus PC-7 Turbo Trainer and, now, the Czech turbofan L-39 Albatros) and was about to go bankrupt in 2003, when it was saved from disaster by the Swiss watchmakers thus becoming the Breitling Jet Team.Thanks to the Swiss watch brand, the Dijon-based team expanded from four to more impressive seven planes and at this time is regarded as one of the most popular aerobatics teams in the world performing at Formula 1 Grand Prix races, all kinds of air shows and, noblesse oblige, at Breitling’s corporate events.It was simply inevitable for the Swiss watchmakers to deliver a 1000-piece Breitling Chronospace Jet Team limited edition watch.Just like the normal Breitling Chronospace, the Jet Team comes powered by the famous Caliber 78 SuperQuartz COSC-certified chronometer movement, which is based on the ETA E20.341 Thermoline quartz mechanism featuring the thermocompensation technology that ensures almost unrivalled precision of the watch.Unlike the base model, I very much adore the Jet Team version, mainly thanks to the lack of the gargantuan numerals on its huge dial, that are replaced with medium-sized hour marks. Covered in a thick layer of SuperLuminova, they provide highly-legible readings even in the worst lighting conditions without drawing too much attention to themselves.The Breitling Jet Team logo, which is printed at 3 o’clock, is adequately balanced with a graphic L-39 representation at 6 o’clock and seems to be visually supported by the two NVG compatible LCD digital displays at the northern and southern parts of the white dial.Of course, one could have expected the hour and minute hands to be slightly thicker, more proportionate with its huge case reaching 48 mm in diameter, but nothing is perfect, eh?In its press release Breitling doesn’t say a single word about the watch’s price, but expect at least 20 percent premium over the normal Breitling Chronospace SuperQuartz Chronograph watch. With the latter selling for as high as $4800, this limited edition model may be offered at an MSRP of some $6000.
