Entering the business of hairbreadth-thin movements in 1957, Piaget continues its journey with the new Altiplano model powered by their newest Calibre 1208P automatic movement.Being only 2.35 mm thick, the movement is 29.9 mm in diameter (perhaps, Piaget’s engineers needed more real estate for the micro-rotor, which is made of 22-carat yellow gold) hence the relatively large case 43 mm in diameter and 5.25 mm thick.Although in its press release Piaget calls its new movement “the thinnest” on the market and uses the word “record” six times, I may remind you that the Calibre 1208P in only 0.1mm thinner than Audemars Piguet’s Calibre 2120/2802 self-winding movement with its full-fledged perpetual calendar complication.The Piaget Altiplano can only display hours, minutes and seconds.Well, at least it will be much less expensive, I suppose.

Within the framework of the SIHH 2011 trade show, the house of Piaget has unveiled its new Limelight Garden Party Ladies watch, artfully decorated with a sparkling mosaic of diamonds.The superb timepiece represents a perfect alliance between high-end jewellery art and refined watchmaking.The new Piaget watch is offered in two versions. Setting them apart from each other is the color of the "leaves" in their "garden" embellishment.Thus, the reference number G0A36166, is paved with 10 marquise-cut emeralds, which weight totals to 5.2 carats. The second interpretation, reference G0A36165, is illuminated by the play of more neutral marquise-cut diamonds. The overall weight of these jewels comes to 4.8 carats. The enthralling decoration lights up passing hours and minutes, indicated by gold hands on an alluring almond-shaped dial. It is generously sprinkled with 76 brilliant-cut diamonds. The display of the new Limelight Garden Party Ladies watch is embraced by a bezel, also set with a refined stream of white diamonds.The bezel is skillfully incorporated into the structure of the 18-carat white gold case. It accommodates a Swiss made quartz Piaget 56P movement.On its front side, the case is assembled with a high-grade sapphire crystal.The company's artisans have also equipped the model with a solid case-back.The new Piaget watch is mounted on a black satin strap, which terminates in an 18-carat white gold folding clasp. The latter is highlighted by the sparkle of 44 brilliant-cut diamonds with the overall weight equal to 0.2 carats.A dazzling accessory, the model in question offers its graceful wearer a true reflection of contemporary femininity.
