The 17th edition of the Watch of the Year awards by the magazine Montres Passion selected the Octo Biretrograde steel-ceramic by Bulgari the 2010 Watch of the Year. At a ceremony held last week in Geneva, before some 500 personalities from the world of watchmaking, winning prize was given to Guido Terreni, Managing Director of the Watch Business Unit of the Bulgari Group. As the jury said, this prize rewards "a watch both technical, with its jumping hour, retrograde minutes and date, and masculine, with a contemporary design, while remaining perfectly harmonious". With a difference of one vote, the second prize went to the "innovative and efficient" Annual Calendar by Patek Philippe (Ref. 5205), a piece who seduced by his "sobriety, its beauty and convenient wearing" and by "the always excellent manufacturing quality of its calibre". Sufficiently rare to be notice since the creation of this contest, a woman's watch, the Miss Golden Bridge of Corum, clearly emerged among the finalists. Hailed for its "elegance and technique, this feminine and ethereal piece" was awarded the third prize and also the Woman' Watch Award 2010. As for the Special Jury Award, a price that it is free to give or not, it comes this year's to the Upside Down Number One by Ludovic Ballouard, "a humble and daring young watchmaker" who signs with this first creation, a "technical, poetic and playful" piece. Composed of watchmaking professionals and chaired by Kenan Tegin, the jury made its final choice from among forty finalists themselves selected from a shortlist of more than one hundred novelties appeared on the Swiss market between September 2009 and December 2010. The finalist watches have also been submitted to the public voting in an online contest. After the counting, the Duom��tre �� Quanti��me Lunaire by Jaeger-LeCoultre wins this Award.
