Pierre Thomas is understandably proud to bring forth a new Montre Historique Tourbillon watch.The heart of this exceptional creation is a Swiss-made mechanical PT 2010 movement. Developed in 1870, the caliber offers a technical upgrade - an aerial Tourbillon XXL, sized 16 mm.The movement operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and ensures a respectable 3 days' autonomy.The aforementioned tourbillon is presented on a black or meteorite mother-of-pearl dial. An undeniable highlight of the new Pierre Thomas watch, the mechanism can be admired in the opening, located between 7 and 9 o'clock. The display also comprises gold stick-shaped indexes and a matching minute track. The progression of hours and minutes is marked by Pierre Thomas steel hands, crafted from pink or white gold. The brand's name is found beneath the hour-marker at 12 o'clock.The dial of the new Montre Historique Tourbillon watch is enclosed in a convex cylindrical case, rendered in 18K pink or grey gold. It is 12.70 mm thick and boasts a diameter of 49 mm. The top of the case is protected by a convex sapphire crystal, inlaid with anti-glare treatment. Its polished back side is engraved with "Manufacture 100% en Suisse". The case-back is also fitted with a sapphire crystal, which permits a glance into the tourbillon.Just as well, the case is equipped with a bee nest-shaped crown, sculptured in 18K gold. The crown is paved with an alluring cabochon. The new model handles depths of up to 30 meters.The new Pierre Thomas watch is worn on a large-scaled alligator leather strap, stitched by hand. Montblanc Collection Villeret 1858 Vintage ChronographeA couple of weeks ago the young Swiss watch maker brand has introduced its new vintage Montblanc Collection Villeret 1858 Vintage Chronographe monopusher chronograph watch.Like a number of recently introduced vintage chronograph watches, the new Montblanc Vintage Chronographe is powered by a vintage-styled but nevertheless pretty modern movement. In this particular case it is the Minerva Kaliber 16-29 manual-wind chronograph movement that we have already seen on the highly exclusive Montblanc Collection Villeret 1858 Grand Chronographe Authentique limited edition monopusher unveiled in 2008.Like the preceding model, the Vintage Chronographe sports only one 30-minute totalizer at 3 o’clock, which is visually balanced with a small second hand located at 9 o’clock.Its dial with a spiral tachymetric scale, as well as the characteristically shaped winding crown combined with a single chronograph pushpiece also remind us about the years when chronographs were at the peak of their success, serving both as pieces of luxury and as real time measuring devices.What is interesting about this watch is that the tachymetric scale was removed from its traditional place at the periphery of the dial, transferred to the central position and replaced by the telemeter scale. The latter is used to measure not the speed of but distance to the particular object or an event. For example, when trying to understand how far is a thunderstorm from your house, you can push the button after seeing a flash and then push it again when you hear the sound of the thunder. The result will be accurate to a point of 0.1 km.Of course, all these features make the dial look a trifle busy and the fact that the spiral tachymetric scale intersects the areas reserved for the chronograph and small second subdials doesn’t help much in reducing the clutter.Well, this Montblanc Collection Villeret 1858 Vintage Chronographe is still one of the best new models that the Swiss brand can offer for this year.Unfortunately, the total production run of the model will be limited at 118 pieces, evenly split between the red gold and white gold versions.
