Each year there is a special music festival in Switzerland known as the Montreaux Jazz Festival. While the music is mostly jazz, it is brimming with contemporary artists in what is most always an impressive event - we just don't ever get to hear about it in the US. Watch company Parmigiani Fleurier is one of the sponsors and also creates limited edition timepieces for the festival - that this year took place in July. The festival has literally hundreds of artists that perform most of them being free to watch - while tickets are required for the bigger names. This year top performers where lucky to received one of these Parmigiani limited edition watches based on the Kalpa XL or Kalpa Grande watches. Notable recipients were such names as Alice Cooper, the Black Eyed Peas, Wyclef Jean, and B.B. King. Two versions of the limited edition watch are available - for either men or women. The dial has been modeled after the event poster with the whimsical winding piano keys. In blue with a watching blue alligator strap is the men's model in the Kalpa XL, while a pink dialed model with a while python strap for the ladies comes in the Kalpa Grande watch case. Both versions come with a steel case and automatic Swiss movements. Villeret Grande Chronograph Regulator is the new timepiece created by the luxurious watchmaker Montblanc. This is a functional, refined and very sophisticated watch due to its technical characteristics. The Montblanc Villeret Grande Chronograph Regulator watch features a 47mm case crafted from 18k white gold, a beautiful dial adorned in a hand-guilloched style and fitted with chronograph hands in Pfinodal. The hand-stitched strap is made of alligator leather and it includes a gold buckle. A part from these basic characteristics, this Montblanc watch presents highly innovative features. The most striking of all are the regulator dial equipped with an hour circle positioned at 12 o'clock and a large minute hand found at the centre of the dial. The sub-dial also features a second time zone fitted with an extra hour hand thus being very useful to travelers. The local time is indicated by the hour hand made in skeleton style placed in the small circle at 12 o'clock. The home time is shown by the blued hour hand. The two hands are in the same position when the wearer of this Villeret Grande Chronograph Regulator watch is in his home time zone. When he travels to another time zone, he can set the skeletonised hour hand to local time by using the button found at 10 o'clock. It is found in the lower half of the dial and it includes two hands which give the user important information about the left power reserve. This was created by using a mechanism which includes 19 individual parts. The timepiece is water resistant to 30 meters. As expected the Montblanc Villeret Grande Chronograph watch is available in limited edition. Montblanc has come up with three variations crafted from different materials: there is one single piece in platinum, 8 pieces made of 18k white gold and 58 pieces in rose gold. The winding crown of each timepiece bears the Montblanc emblem signifying that the highest level in European craftsmanship has been reached.
