I'm sure many of you have seen the new men's cologne called Bang by Marc Jacobs, as it has been on the front page of the NYTimes.com and a number of other high profile sites and print magazines since its initial launch in July. So I recruited one of my female friends to go with me to my local Bloomingdales and see if the new "Bang" scent is worth buying. And after simply spraying one small squirt of the new cologne on my neck, my female friend and I had immediately made our decision. The decision was unanimous, we both really liked the new scent from Marc Jacobs. It is very unique, without being overly soapy or overly sweet. By now, most of you have probably seen some version of the Marc Jacobs Coated Leather MJ Satchel in person, and if you have, you know exactly what I mean when I say that it doesn't remind me of any designer back I've seen in the last few years, and maybe ever. I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing, but I always appreciate innovation.The most striking thing about this bag when you see it in person is how perfectly smooth the leather is; in fact, I didn't really believe it was leather when I first picked up one of these. But it is, just super slick and without any sign of grain or natural imperfection. Whether or not you'll like that depends on your personal style, I suppose. Personally, I find this bag and the materials used to make it absolutely fascinating; I merely wish it came in a black and grey version.Upon touching this bag, the first thing that you notice is that it's very, very stiff. The inflexibility helps out with the traditional look and structure of the bag, and it allows the leather's shine to, well, shine. The coating on the bag isn't as shiny as patent, but it still gives the Replica Marc Jacobs handbags a flawless, almost fake quality. If you want a bag that will sag with age, this one isn't it, but the space-age material gives this traditional satchel a thoroughly modern edge.In general, I think that phrase "too much is never enough" is useful when trying to explain certain sectors of fashion, particularly to those who aren't interested in the industry or in understanding the genius of fabulous fashion eccentrics like Anna Dello Russo or Daphne Guinness. Rococo is always alive and well somewhere within the style world, even during harsh economic times, and its exuberant resilience is to the industry's credit.Sometimes rococo runs headlong into a wall, though, as with the Marc Jacobs Large Sequined Stam. I like the Stam bags (I even have one from way back in the second season that they were around), I like sequins, I like the blush-nude color that we have going on here. But unfortunately, the end result is less than the sum of its parts.As you can probably guess, my main gripe is with the side of the paillettes. They're enormous, far too big for something the size of a regular handbag, and they give the bag a very South Florida-grandma-at-the-retirement-home feel. Part of that may also be caused by the color, but with smaller sequins, the effect would have been more high-end and elegant. I can see the spirit of fun that probably went into this replica handbags, but the idea just doesn't work out as well in practice as it might have on paper.
