Glashutte Original’s charming Senator Sixties watch collection will soon be enriched by a new model incorporating the manufacture’s signature panorama date indicator. Previous references were the debut Senator Sixties watch with a simple time display and sweep seconds, and an extremely elegant two-counter automatic chronograph in a larger case size. The new timepiece, initially presented in stainless steel and featuring a 42mm case, will immediately be taken to by those already enamored of what Glashutte Original has created with this vintage-inspired line. The harmonious design, refined yet endearing dial details, and elegantly retro presence remain undiminished. At the same time, however, the wearer can also enjoy a very useful supplemental function that has been accomplished in a horologically advanced manner.When it becomes available through authorized retailers later in 2010, the Glashutte Original Senator Sixties Panorama Date watch will be offered with a black or silver dial. Although the former is fitted with white gold hands, and the latter with rose gold hands, both dials share a distinctive profile that curves downward at the outer edge, in addition to strikingly executed hour indications that have been precisely cut into the surface with diamond-tipped tools. Other refined nuances include hands with curved tips that conform to the dial surface, and a frame for the panorama date window that is slightly recessed to optimally draw the viewer’s eye.One of the most stunning features of the Glashutte Original Senator Sixties watch–a strongly profiled sapphire crystal exhibition caseback–again makes its appearance with the new Panorama Date model. Pleasing for both its sculptural effect and the way it allows the owner “in” to the inner mechanism, this back creates a captivating stage for the manufacture Glashutte Original Caliber 39-47. Although the base movement has been well established in many Glashutte Original timepieces where it continues to earn an excellent reputation for both timekeeping precision and general reliability, it also shows off celebrated Glashutte finishing pedigree. Beneath the skeletonized rotor with its 21-karat gold mass and gilt “double G” symbol, a three-quarter plate gleams with Glashutte ribbed patterns and gold-filled lettering. Also to admire is the winding wheel with its sunburst pattern, and a graceful swan neck fine regulation spring that amply evidences the dedicated hand polishing skills practiced by perfectionist artisans in the manufacture’s workshop. Equipped with a flat hairspring, the large balance wheel completes 28,800 semi-oscillations each hour. Power reserve of the Glashutte 39 Caliber is approximately 40 hours. Beneath the dial resides the ingenious system of two numbered discs which operate in exacting motion to present the date in its sophisticated and easy-to-read double digit format.The Glashutte Original Senator Sixties Panorama Date timepiece is fitted with a convex sapphire crystal which has been treated on both sides with anti-reflective coatings. Between the polished stainless steel lugs is a luxurious strap in finely-grained alligator leather. Water resistance of this Senator Sixties reference is 30 meters, a specification entirely adequate in keeping with its mission as a refined and stylish gentleman’s companion.

I think I found my new grail watch. Well, achievable Grail at least��One of the most beautiful, yet understated dress watches I have ever seen, with a very unique complication that sets it aside from the other watches out there. The Senator Diary has an alarm that can be set to go off any time in the next 30 days ahead! The alarm allows you to specify a date for it to go off as well in addition to the time. The exhibition case back of the Senator Diary is also very nice looking, as most Glashutte Original watches are.This beauty features GO's in-house manufacture Calibre 100-13 and totals 600 components! And of course also features GO's signature 3/4 plates. Case measures a healthy 42mm in diameter.Available in stainless steel with black dial for $18,100 and in rose gold with silver dial for $29,400. The Rose gold version is my grail! Hell, a lot of the higher end Glashutte Originals end up feeling like Grail watches to me. I just really like their stuff!
