The ww.tc Shadow New York? uses a similar red/white GMT ring design with the location of New York highlighted in red.The Girard-Perregaux ww.tc Shadow New York is an ultra-exclusive release of just 10 pieces.Popularity: 3% [?]|||No Comment Girard-Perregaux’s new 1966 range of models break coverPosted byJohnny McElherroninFebruary 1st 2010The Girard-Perregaux marque presented their latest interpretations of the 1966 series at the SIHH exhibition, held recently in Geneva.The 1966 collection first appeared in 2006 and since it’s arrival has become an ever-more important element of the Girard-Perregaux portfolio, with it’s popularity growing in this ultra-competitive sector.Complimenting the new column-wheel Chronograph and the Full Calendar models, I particularly like the 1966 Small Seconds piece.The Girard-Perregaux 1966 Small SecondsHoused in a slim and elegant 38mm palladium case, the Small Seconds is an unfussy and understated work, but that classic minimalism is central to it’s appeal to me. A rarer member of the platinum group of metals, palladium is a naturally lustrous metal. More resistant to scratching than gold, it gives the watch a wonderfully bright and shining finish.The brushed metal dial is a demonstration of simplistic design and is beautifully legible. There are no features such as minutes markers, highlighted subdial or magnified date, no luminous hands or marks. The G-P branding, the hour markers along with the small seconds markers are imprinted onto the dial. Only the slender baton markers applied at the 3, 6, 9 and 12 and the square date window interupt the otherwise pebble-smooth su***ce.At the 9 o’clock position is the small seconds itself. Set onto the dial, the oxidised blue steel hand sweeps around it’s miniature kingdom.The watch features an in-house GP03300-0039 automatic movement, which can be observed through the sapphire crystal caseback. Despite the apparently *** and uncongested?design of the dial, it still employs a number of traits which draw their cues from classic chronograph watches from the past. These include the use of minutes track around the dial and subdials, the retro-styling of the tachymetric scale too further adds to?the overall theme. Celebrating its 220th anniversary, the Girard-Perregaux Manufacture reveals its new sophisticated timepiece - the Girard-Perregaux 1966 Tourbillon with gold Bridge. The watch will join the Haute Horlogerie collection. Reflecting the essence of watchmaking tradition, the timepiece will be limited to just 50 pieces. The new Girard-Perregaux watch demonstrates a sober and elegant design. The silvered dial is completed with �Breguet?Arabic numerals. The time is indicated by blued steel leaf-shaped hands. The 40mm case, crafted from pink gold, demonstrates clean lines. The curvature and lugs of the case have been meticulously fashioned to provide supreme comfort on the wrist. The case was subjected to careful finishing operations to enhance the brilliance of its pink gold surface. The case-back is fitted by 6 screws. It has been manually engraved paying tribute to the domes of Girard-Perregaux's tourbillons relevant to the 19th century. The case-back also features a hand-engraved individual number.The heart of the 1966 Tourbillon with gold Bridge is a mechanical self-winding movement - Girard-Perregaux 9610 caliber. The mechanism has been constructed from 224 parts. The elegant decorative details and architecture of the movement have also been inspired by 19th century pocket tourbillons. Operating at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, the 31-jewel movement provides a 48-hour power reserve. The tourbillon bridge of the new Girard-Perregaux watch is worth special attention. It demonstrates an unusual shape - called �bassiné? the two arms of the bridge are rounded off. While rounding off the arms, the brand�s craftsmen have to file the ends of the arms to make them perfectly uniform. The arms acquire a semi-cylindrical shape while maintaining the demarcation of the centre and the heels. Then, the craftsmen use stones, buffs, boxwood and diamond pastes for smoothing the arms to a supremely rounded finish. This top-level craftsmanship reflects the heritage of the pocket Tourbillons created by Constant Girard-Perregaux in the 19th century. The sophisticated Tourbillon is assembled from 72 parts with amazing dexterity, as all the parts fit into a diameter of just one centimeter. Its weight is just 0.3 gram. The self-winding system of the movement has been patented by the Girard-Perregaux Manufacture. The small-diameter platinum oscillating weight is positioned in the space below and around the barrel.
