Calibre de Cartier Multiple Time ZonesThe French jeweler Cartier slowly, but steadily builds itself a reputation of a serious watch manufacturer, which is capable of developing and producing very complex and innovative movements. The new Calibre de Cartier Multiple Time Zones automatic watch is among their latest masterpieces.As the company stated in its press release, the watch is equipped with the Cartier Caliber 9909 MC self-winding movement that takes the concept of a GMT watch a step or two higher.The movement displays not only local and home time, but adds to the picture a “jet lag display” that tells time difference between the two time zones, and a multiple time zone (MTZ) indicator, which is located not on the dial, but on the left side of the chunky case.The idea behind the positioning of the MTZ display is simple: to make the multi-layered dial look less cluttered. However, I suppose that using this thing with the watch secured on the wrist will be rather difficult.Pressing one of small pushers, you can also make adjustments for summer or daylight savings time.The movement itself is not very large (only 25.58 in diameter and 6.68 mm in height,) but the case, which is available both in white and yellow gold, looks very bulky. Mainly, thanks to the lateral magnifier at 9 o’clock that eats precious millimeters.

Without the omitted elements the watch’s dial now looks even more sober and elegant.Also, the removal of the date aperture has allowed to better focus attention of an observer on the smooth bend of the minute track done in order to provide extra space for the fluted winding crown, which is traditionally adorned with a cabochon, a blue one in this particular case.As you can see on the picture, the platinum version of the watch features a deep-blue dial which is decorated a pertinent sunburst finish and provides the watch with even more depth.The elegance and exclusivity comes at a price, though.According to the company, the Extra-Flat Ballon Bleu de Cartier in 950/1000 Platinum will bear an impressive price tag of $32,500.
