Montres Breguet inaugurated last week a new boutique on one of Zurich's most prestigious shopping avenues. After Geneva, Paris, Moscow, New York and Shanghai, to mention but a few, the brand is consolidating its worldwide presence by taking its place on the famous Bahnhofstrasse. The Breguet watch collections are presented in an exclusive new 420 square meter three-floor showcase highlighting the brand's values and expertise within a plush, elegant atmosphere. The engraved glass walls are inspired by the art of guilloch��-work and their royal blue color pays tribute to that of the "�� tact" watch ordered by Empress Josephine in 1799. The anodised aluminium rods separating the various areas are reminiscent of the finely fluted pattern adorning the cases of Breguet timepieces. The recurrent elliptical motif on the floor and ceiling echo the iconic oval shape of the Reine de Naples watch, the first wristwatch created for Caroline Murat by A.-L. Breguet in 1810.

Originally introduced almost eight years ago during the Baselworld 2003 trade show, the Breguet Reveil du Tsar has recently been updated with a gorgeous white Grand Feu enamel dial.While I am not the greatest fan of Breguet’s current model range, this particular watch simply takes my breath away.The milky white dial, heat-blued hands, and meticulously painted numerals produce absolutely stunning effect.Also, the watch offers an outstanding level of legibility, when a mighty torrent of information (an alarm clock sub-dial at 3 o’clock; a subsidiary second and small date aperture at 6 o’clock; a 24-hour GMT sub-dial at 9 o’clock; an alarm clock’s power reserve indicator between 10 and 11 o’clock; and, finally, an alarm on/off indicator at 12 o’clock) doesn’t drown you, but actually refreshes your mind.The alarm complication is also an example in ergonomics.As one may easily guess, it is operated with its own winding crown at 4 o’clock and a small pusher at 8 o’clock.Its own sub-dial is marked-up in Roman numerals and in different type-face, which makes it even easier to separate it from the main dial.The rest is more or less the same.The watch is supplied in the same 39 mm case and is powered by the same Breguet caliber 519F automatic movement.Built on 34 jewels and offering up to 45 hours of power reserve, the movement is beautifully decorated with Geneva stripes on its bridges and a spiral Barleycorn guilloche pattern on its 18-carat rose gold oscillating weight.As the name implies, the watch will be sold exclusively at Breguet’s own boutiques throughout the world.
