A. Lange & Sohne has introduced a new Saxonia at SIHH 2010, the Saxonia Annual Calendar. They have already offered a Perpetual Calendar function (which corrects for a period of many years) in the past, but now for the first time, they are offering an Annual Calendar function (only needs to be corrected once per year) in one of their timepieces. Offered first by Patek Philippe, in 1996, the Annual Calendar complication is now widely regarded as an important function in high-end watches. The watch employs a 43.2 mm case made in 18-carat rose gold or platinum, beautifully matched with a hand-sewn crocodile leather strap, which adds an elegant aspect to the timepiece. A sapphire-crystal material covers the case and provides the ultimate scratch resistance, the transparent case-base exposing the superb heart of the watch, the intriguing Lange Calibre L001.1 movement. Furthermore, the fascinating Double Split Watch presents a sophisticated solid silver dial, also available in black background and features the time with rhodiumed gold hour, minutes and small seconds-hands and applied Roman numerals and hour markers. The dial also accommodates a power reserve indicated by the small gold hand located at the upper half of the dial, split-second flyback chronograph and a tachometer. The double slip feature refers to the seconds and minute-hands that can split and maintain a separate 30 minute counter compared with the traditional watches that only have a split second which permit for timing an additional gain of up to 60 seconds. The Double Split Watch has an additional timing of up to 30 minutes. The flyback function allows the chronograph to be immediately restarted for continuous timing with the help of the lateral buttons, without having to stop/ reset and then restart it. The minute hand of the chronograph jumps in 1 minute gaining rather than continuously moving and this allows an accurate reading of the timing function.The precise functionality of all the functions of the watch is guaranteed by the intriguing hand-wound movement – Calibre L001.1, nicely hand-finished and in-house made.
